ballots. Additionally, a judge was assigned to the specific task of working with

Subject: Ballots for February 8, 2005, Special Election
RCW 29A.62.140 provides that the County Canvassing Board shall consist of the County Auditor,
the Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, and the County Prosecuting Attorney, or their
designated representatives.
The canvassing of the Special Election has been scheduled for Friday, February 18, 2005 at 2:00
P.M. ALL MEMBERS OF THE CANVASSING BOARD need to be present to canvass the
election returns and to sign the certificates.
Also, part of the duties of the Canvassing Board is to verify the signatures of the absentee voters and
to count the absentee ballots.
For the purpose of the duties set forth in RCW 29A.40.110 (e.g., opening, examining, verifying), and
for the purpose of counting the absentee ballots, we hereby affirm our designation of the Cowlitz
County Auditor's staff and the committee composed of an equal number of Democrats and
Republicans to act on our behalf. We reserve the right to act or designate others to act for the
purpose of challenging the qualifications of any absentee voter and to review questioned or
provisional ballots.
